I don't know about you, but I love a good new years resolution! There's just something about the idea of change that always gets me excited. Whether it's a small adjustment to daily habits or a huge turn-around on your outlook on life itself, the opportunity to change for the better is always welcome in my book.
If I thought last year's resolution of being more open and changing my pessimistic attitude was hard to achieve, wait 'til you hear this one! My 2011 resolution is--get this--to act my age. I realize that everyone who knows me would describe me as "hard worker" who is "wise beyond her years" and is "really responsible". In other words, people think I'm REALLY DAMN BORING but just they won't admit it. It's too bad, really, because they'd be right.
Let's look at the facts: I've already planned out my life for the next five years, people mistake me for 25 all the time, and even my mom is pressing me to live a little. Sigh. It has dawned on me that I really do take life way too seriously. I don't even remember the last time I did something spontaneous or reckless or went out past midnight (actually, come to think of it, I never have). Fact of the matter is: I'm 17 and the last time I checked, 17-year olds were allowed to have fun, be wild, experiment and feel invincible...it's just a part of life! When else during the average 85-year lifespan is it socially acceptable to run around in thigh-grazing dresses, dye your hair pastel pink and dance atop tables?!
See, the problem with my obsession of pursuing my ideal future life is that I've taken on way too many responsibilities and grown up far too quickly, thus disregarding any thought of living in the present and therefore leading a boring, responsible, sensible teenage life (and who wants one of those?!) In the end, my mother was correct (yet again) in saying that I've got the rest of my life to be old, and that I should HAVE FUN NOW and enjoy being a teen while I still can.You only get to be young once, might as well have the best time ever, right? So from now on, to hell with it--I'm going to go out there and carpe that f-cking diem! YEAH!!!
Now, excuse me while I sneak out of the house via my bedroom window on a school night to go have said fun (kidding).

You're only 17 once.
And then before you know it you're 40. Time flies, really! Enjoy your youth while you can.
You're gorgeous -- but I really couldn't believe it when I've seen that you're 17! Your writing is really something else, most 17 year olds I knew couldn't even type a decent paragraph and sentence. Hahah.
I act too old too, I'm 20, but my mom acts WAY younger than me. People joke that I HAVE a teenage daughter... sigh. Haha.
PS: Are you a Winnipegger? I am too! :D

take advantage of it now while your body can handle it, later on you'll be too tired to care ;)
viva la vida, girl!! :)
Come to a show with me again! I've got some great new local bands I wanna hear!
That's a great resolution! I forget too how young you are. Dancing on tables is a must I think, as well as skinny dipping, staying out all night, and doing any other random things you can think of. Just don't overdo the bad substances and bad boys!
Girllll, I know just how you feel. I was there once. Made all these plans and was on a set track...then one day I honestly said F it and threw the game plan out the window. I've never looked back. While I do still have my hopes, dreams, and goals for the future, I haven't limited myself as to when they need to happen by. Taking life day by day, but keeping your eyes on the prize is a good way to go. Don't grow up too fast, lady! Live out each moment...especially when you get to college! You never want to look back and regret not being more spontaneous.
Side note: I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THOSE PHOTOS EVERYWHERE. I have some of the photos tacked up on my wall, and I couldnt for the life of me remember which magazine I ripped them out from. So, a million thanks for ending my long search. I can die happy, hahaha, I kid. But really, THANKS.

Enjoy your life...live live live!! One thing is for sure; on your deathbed you will never think: "Oh..I should have worked a little more and have less fun" :D
And...don't do drugs. Become a popstar and they'll give it to you for free!! (heheh ;) just to be sure; it is a joke and a quote from the movie Love Actually)
Happy New Year!
Ah don't worry girl, you can never be to responsible! And you'll have fun down time in college, not to say you shouldn't have fun now- becasue of course you should. Just take it easy and relax, and it'll come to you!
Happy New Year.
I have the opposite "problem", I haven't planned a THING :P Maybe you can get some of my I-don't-give-a-damn/spontaniousness and I can have some of your responsebility and ability to plan! Then we'd both have very pleased moms, haha ^^ Happy new years anyway<3 Love your blog xoxo

I went a little crazy my first 2 years of college and I spent the last 2 trying to make up for it haha!
It's all about finding the balance, all good things in moderation :)

I was too sensible and serious a sort when in high school, and I wish I'd been at least a little more spontaneous. You should do something fun, something awesome.
That´s the spirit! :DDDD I used to be there in years 0-17 till it just came to me that this is it and that I got to take the best of it. Changed my life for better :)
love these photos - I think this is the kind of fun you need to be having! Hehe. Happy new year darling, all the best for 2011 :)
I agree- sometimes its hard to act young lol :)

I remember this vogue spread. Its still one of my favorites. I remember having it hung up in my room with a ton of others covering my walls.
SUBVERSIVE FASHION
paradoxical as it may seem, it takes a truly mature person to have the presence of mind to know when and where it's time to be immature. and you have your mom's blessing, too? you're golden - best of luck!
I´d do anything to be 17 again. I´m only 20 and I love to act silly and do more exciting things. Enjoy this time you have left.
you're only 17!!! you're a baby! go out there and have fun! haha i hope your new year's resolution will come true and come to think about it..i honestly wish i wish i was 17 again... i missed out so much fun!
xx
lovely maxi dresse dear:)
kiss
you're absolutely right. I'm 17 (actually 17 and 9 months but who's counting?) and even though I've got big plans for the future, I'm all about living the moment and making the best out of this precious teenage years. go for it girl!
in fact, I'm just about to head out in a fancy gown and get myself covered in foam.
well not really.. anyway, good luck in everything you do!
as long as it doesn't have any negative effect emotionally seen.. than I'm okay with the partying:) hehe. I like how you get excited about 'change'. because change is good and normally seen, people don't like change at all. But maybe, somehow in the midst of the 'changing-process' we unconsciously stay at the exact same place as we were, while our mind keeps telling us that we're changing.. sometimes its good to reflect on what really changed for the better and what not. And a new year is a good way to start this:)
I think also that it's a matter of taking the risks, sometimes not even thinking too much about every little detail, but just taking it. learn from mistakes. Copy the right people, surround yourself with the right people, and live in the now. but most importantly is to have fun: i always say.. 'just.. smile.'
hehe. I'm sorry for the long comment! I just felt like saying this:p
I am stooooooooooked for 2011 bad-ass Raez!

I'm the same age & feel the same way! I'm already in college & I work 40 hours a week. It's true that you're only 17 once & you're at that time in life when it's okay to do stupid things & have some fun! I'm trying to lighten up too & leave life open for some surprises. Good luck & have fun! But...maybe not TOO much fun (;
This is a good resolution! I wish I could go back to being seventeen again, it was one of the best years of my life. By the way, I just discovered your blog and I love it. You are so gorgeous!
Love it, I feel dirty looking at these pretty dresses, need a bath!www.fashionbaggage.com

Nice editoril i am shocked about your age ! Wow.. You have a great future ahead girl.
Experiment, but don't do anything stupid. In high school, I was very driven and was always worried about my future. I don't think there's anything wrong about it because I DID get to where I wanted to go thus far.
However, I do regret not loosening up a little because I feel like a boring person.
So just have fun, live life and just don't do anything stupid. Just keep your goals in sight.
=)

Oh please girl, GO WILD!
haha just kidding, but you shouldn't forget you're young :D
The great thing about being 17 is that you can do anything. You can party all night long, kiss random strangers, go to concerts, dance your butt of or just do nothing all day long.
No one will think you've totally gone mad, because you're young. And when you're young, you do stupid and reckless stuff. And you learn from it so you don't do all those stupid things when you get older haha.
If you got the time&money, you should totally visit me sometime in the Netherlands haha. That would be pretty awesome, wouldn't it? And pretty impulsive haha.
love them editorial shots.

enjoy the life right now!
indeed, carpe that f-cking diem haha! like the pictures!
